"...and so I told the police officers,
I won't say anything if you guys don't.
"
                                                     - Phil Carr
" Phil, that's NOT how I recall it.
I have great respect and love for the kickers.

"Our current team is young, but mature
in many different ways.  They have their
sights set on lofty goals.  When looking at
that championship plaque in our office,
they know you dealt with and overcame many obstacles.  They hope to someday
be like you."
                                       - Coach Crist
" We were highly motivated as young men
by Coaches such as Coach Crist, Brown,
and Bowyer.  They showed us how to
work hard and respect others, and
the rewards were far beyond
winning football games."
                                        - Randall Burch
" I remember that games were easier
than practices.  I remember the words on
the wall 'Did you pay the price today?',
and I remember that the Coaches were
just as concerned with us each getting
better every day, as they were with
winning games."
                      -Stanley Webb
"I remember Coach Brown's speech
after losing to Salem, like it was yesterday.
His message, as always, was clear:
we should never, ever give up,
and no matter how great the odds,
give it your all."
                        - Brian Saari
"Coach Crist taught us all that speaking
softly, knowledeably, and
straight from the heart, is
a powerful form of communication."

" I fondly remember Coach Crist's Pre-Game
talk and prayer right before each game...
Ending with 'We love you all'. "

" Playing for BHS taught me to
always respect your opponent, and to
always put the team in front of the
individual. I use this every day in my
life, and hope to pass it on to my sons
as well. "
                                        - Mark Dymock
" Coach Crist is a man of integrity. He cares
a lot about people, and treats them
fairly and with respect.  He is passionate
about winning, but also about doing
things the right way.  Coach Crist has
shown me, and hundreds of other young
ment how to conduct themselves in their
day to day relationships with people."

" John Skelly was just one of the examples of the championship spirit of that 1977 Championship Team.  He received a 'career ending' knee injury the first game of his senior season.  His never-say-die attitude resulted in him not only playing but causing the fumble that turned the momentum of the championship game. If he had listened to the doctors and missed one day of rehabilitation, he probably would not have played again."
                                        - Roland Lazenby
                                                 The Blacksburg Sun
" I remember the leadership of Coach Crist and his staff.  We expected to win and were willing to to what was necessary to obtain that goal.  This philosophy helped me during my playing days in college and in my life.
                                                        - Bob Houska
" I remember the green snake somebody put in Phil Carr's locker.  I've never seen anybody jump so high or far in the locker room."
                                        - Terry McCoy
" I remember the work ethic.  We were a  'blue collar team'  that gave 110% on everything we did."
                   - Frank Hale

" I've been blessed to have been part
of 5 championship teams, as both a player and coach.
The one thing that ALWAYS sticks out is my mind on the championship seaons is not that we had better atheletes, we had the better team.  Coach Crist instilled that in everything he and his      staff did in preparation for every practice and every game.  I was
fortunate to have learned this unique distintction of
excellence early in my career."
